Cambodia has requested China to expand technical support, traditional medicine research, and short- and long-term training for health sector personnel to help achieve priority health strategies and advance toward universal health coverage by 2035.

The request was made by Dr Sung Vinntak, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health, who led the Cambodian delegation on a study visit last week to the China-Cambodia Traditional Medicine Academic Symposium and International Cooperation Exchange Programme in Hong Kong. The delegation aimed to study the development of traditional Chinese medicine and cooperation.

During the visit, Dr Vinntak discussed the outcomes of Cambodia-China cooperation, particularly in traditional medicine, which contributes to building a year-round Cambodia-China community in the new era. He expressed gratitude to Chinese partners for supporting traditional medicine in Cambodia, including the establishment of a Chinese traditional medicine centre at the Cambodia-China Friendship Hospital in Preah Kosom, strengthening health staff capacity, and providing technical assistance.

The Cambodian delegation also met with Meng Dongping, Party Secretary and Deputy Head of China’s Chamber of Commerce responsible for food, medicine, and health products, to discuss enhancing investment cooperation in pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and health products.

Dr Vinntak urged China to continue and expand technical support, technology sharing, traditional medicine research, and short- and long-term health staff training.

After Hong Kong, Cambodian health officials proceeded to Beijing to participate in the 2025 China International Fair for Trade in Services Health Services Innovation Achievements Release under the theme “Smart Leadership for Future Healthy Life.”
