Traditional Chinese Medicine dates back thousands of years, with modern practitioners worldwide still using some of its techniques. In Mexico, traditional Eastern medicine is so popular, locals can find it in nearly every city. CGTN's Franc Contreras visits Mexico City to see one of the oldest post-graduate acupuncture schools outside of China.

Modern day Mexico City, where healthcare practitioners and patients alike are turning to these needles for healing.

FRANC CONTRERAS CGTN "The National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico was among the first official institutions outside of Asia to teach human acupuncture. Every student who enters the program must have a certified degree as a medical doctor."

Dr. Daniel Cuahtemoc Gomez directs Mexico's oldest and most renowned acupuncture program.

For more than 20 years, Mexico's National Polytechnic Institute – or IPN – has been training students in the science of Traditional Medicines.

Vianey Arana Gomez is a surgeon, who graduated from IPN. She's also trained in Homeopathic medicine and physical therapy. And she wants to add acupuncture to her impressive list of medical abilities.

Students learn each of the 365 to 367 acupuncture points on the human body. The university also produces scientific research on the benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Alberto Espindola and his wife Teresa Torres have just received treatments. She, for varicose veins and he, for a urinary tract problem.

Professors and students at this renowned university say there is much to learn from ancient cultures, both here in Latin America and across the globe in China about the human body and improving patients' lives. FC, CGTN, Mexico City.
